LG Optimus 3D Max gets GCF approval, to be released sometime in Q2

While it doesn’t come with a quad-core processor, Android Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box or a full HD screen, the LG Optimus 3D Max is one of the most appealing gadgets to have been unveiled lately and one I know most of you are craving for.

Being set to follow in the footsteps of the world’s first-ever 3D phone, the Optimus 3D Max is closing in on its release after being approved a couple of days ago by the GCF (Global Certification Forum).

With quad-band GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz frequencies approved, as well as EDGE class 12 and HSDPA category 14 support, the Optimus 3D Max, codenamed P720, promises to come with pretty fast download and upload speeds, but will most likely not feature 4G LTE connectivity.

As for release dates and availability, this latest leak doesn’t of course offer us any official details, but it’s pretty safe to assume that, after GFC approval, the smartphone will be doing the FCC dance soon enough and will be hitting online and offline shelves before the end of Q2.

That’s sometime between April and June and the 4.3-incher should be made available first in Asia with Europe and North American markets following closely.

For those of you who missed this little guy’s formal introduction way back in February, you should know that we will be dealing with a significantly improved 3D experience from the original Optimus 3D, but also with a couple of important design and hardware changes.

The new smartphone will certainly be more good-looking, fashionable and slim, while in terms of hardware you should expect some decent speed, as there is a dual-core 1.2 GHz TI OMAP processor under the hood, as well as 1 GB of RAM. Unfortunately, the handheld will only be running Android Gingerbread at the time of its release, but the manufacturers are promising a very speedy ICS update.

How about it, guys? Are you excited about the Optimus 3D Max or is the smartphone simply not snappy and powerful enough to make you look past the quad-core gadgets released or due to be released soon?
