Io sono riuscito a fare il root con questa guida che è in una lingua straniera ma si capisce bene. Ti servono solo i driver usb e adb che ho trovato sulla rete

You were sold a Zenfone 5 with a CN rom installed, I'm not sure how they do it in china but what they end up doing is make the rom WW but the phone stays CN or CUCC, your case is a bit unique because they ended up flashing a CN rom over the CUCC, god knows why they'd do that.
What really confused me about your post was the fact that you can't change the name of the update file. I don't know what you mean as you can download the latest update which is 1.17 CUCC, extract it and you'll find another zip folder within and rename that zip folder to something like ASUS_T00F_CUCC_user_1.20.40.51_20200601_56281 5 release-keys 010175_202001130121 and put it into the root of the INTERNAL MEMORY not external. If you notice I renamed the folder with future dates and a newer version (1.20), in essence it would be a 1.17 but this is just to trick the phone into thinking its a new update. This has to be done because the person who flashed that rom into your zenfone put the version at 1.19 which doesn't exist, the latest firmware if 1.18 and its only available for CN, TW and WW. The latest version for CUCC is 1.17 and you'll have to use that to successfully flash your one. You wont need ADB I think. Remember that you'll have to rename the file with future dates and version, the date is located right after the underscore after the version (1.20.40.51_20200601 ). This is the only way I can think of and I think its the only way possible. After you've flashed it you can probably downgrade with ADB and flash WW. Once you flash WW with ADB it should make the rom WW and the phone WW so when you go to droidboot it'll say something like PRODUCT WW_A500. Make sure you download the right update file as there are different files for all the variants of zenfone 5(z560, z580).

Ciao ragazzi io ero nella vostra stessa situazione Cucc con finto ww del 2019 stavo provando e riprovando a fare il root e non ricordo come ad un certo punto ho trovato che superuser c'era già tra le app, ma tra le applicazioni "disattivate"....magari può esservi d'aiuto.
Non sono un esperto però alla fine downgrade e cambio SKU riuscito ;-)

Ho letto un po' prima di postare ma ho ancora le idee confuse...
Mi è stato dato un Asus Zenfone 5 acquistato da Amazon.tw mi pare, comunque il giovane ha provato a fare qualcosa e ora è bloccato nella schermata Asus.
Riesco a fare il Droidboot e da li si vede che ha una rom CUCC_500 ma non ho altre info, non ho capito che firmware ha montato. Si può flasharlo senza accedere allo smartphone?
Se si bisogna fare CUCC>CN? Perché non trovo rom CUCC...

Ma i problemi per il root li avete con la 4.3 ? Per fare il root con la 4.3 basta la App RootZenFone, io ho usato la 1.4.60 senza problemi. Unica avvertenza disabilitare wifi e dati e Bt, poi avere pazienza nei vari reboot che possono essere lunghi e far pensare ad un impallo. Poi installate il supersu. E poi fate quello che dovete fare... Okkio ai RootZenFone tarocchi che girano...
