Yes I can enter and I have tried several re-flashes - still same result, stuck at boot logo.

Do you know Sp Flash tool?Try to flash v8.1:u can find it in post 1

After u flash it try again to flash in recovery v10

Yes,is better to do full wipe eveytime u flash a new rom

The steps performed were the following:

1. Flash 8.1 with SP (Firmware Upgrade option selected)
2. Wipe data - Factory reset & Wipe Dalvik Cache - via recovery
3. Install V10 from zip - via recovery
4. Reboot
5. Stuck at boot logo.

What am I missing here?

After you flashed the 8.1 everything was good?

Then is possible the file (v10 rom) was corrupted tries to re-download it.Let me know.
