I have no problem with the proximity sensor
anyway, I changed some configuration about the sensor in the alpha3....you can try with the new version

The system comes with the file manager to open the external memory card, prompted the need for ROOT users, but through the download menu can be opened

not ask the root permission but a permission to access to the external sdcard

in camera I also have no problem to switch from video/photo mode
you have already tried to reflash the rom with a full wipe ?

Now I using Ubuntu 16.10 but I also have used Ubuntu 16.04 and manjaro without any problem
